Laura has more than 20 years’ experience working with nonprofits and all levels of government, directing outreach and issue campaigns, organizing, messaging and communications; she specializes in reaching Latino, immigrant, and LGBT communities. Laura is the principal at Esquivel Strategies, where she devises and implements highly effective advocacy, outreach, and communication strategies in partnership with targeted minority communities.
Ms. Esquivel possesses a depth of knowledge of the LGBT and Latino communities few can match. As a creative and independent professional, Laura has a reputation as an outstanding relationship builder with the ability to develop strategic plans to engage external stakeholders and deliver value for any organization.
Recently, Laura served as the Latino Vote Director for Organizing for America in Colorado, where she trained and coached field staff and volunteers in effective messaging and outreach methods to Latino voters during President Obama’s re-election campaign.
In her long career, Laura has contributed to well over a hundred campaigns during her time as senior vice president for political affairs at the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, research and issue marketing at People for the American Way, and in policy and government relations at LLEGO (the first national Latino LGBT Organization).
